LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday submitted nomination papers of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, wife of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif, for the National Assembly seat NA-120 Lahore, party leaders confirmed to Geo News, which fell vacant following Sharif's disqualification by the Supreme Court.

Speaking to journalists here, Dr. Asif Kirmani confirmed submission of Kalsoom Nawaz's nomination papers in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The documents to contest the by-poll were submitted by her son-in-law MNA Captain (retd) Safdar.

Reports emerged earlier this week that the ruling PML-N had finalised Sharif’s wife as the party’s candidate for the by-poll.

According to media reports, as many as 35 candidates have received nomination papers for the by-election, scheduled to be held on September 17.

Submission of the papers will end on August 12.

The scrutiny of the papers will take place on August 15-17, while the final list of candidates will be issued on August 26, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

In the 2013 General Elections, Nawaz won the seat by a substantial margin, defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Yasmin Rashid — who will be contesting for the seat this time around too.
