At least one dead as parts of coal mine collapse in Harnai, Balochistan

QUETTA: At least one miner was reported dead on Friday after parts of a coal mine collapsed in Balochistan's Harnai District. 

One miner has also been rescued in an injured state while six of his colleagues remain trapped inside. 

Chief Inspector Mines Iftikhar Ahmed said a landslide occurred at two spots at the Sharig Coal Mine in Harnai on Thursday night. 

Two miners were trapped inside as a result, after which six of their colleagues went in to rescue them but got trapped themselves.  

Ahmed added that a rescue operation is under way to recover the six miners still trapped inside the mine. 

Last month, according to media reports, three coal miners were killed after poisonous gas accumulated inside a coal mine in Harnai.
