Those demanding snap elections are against development: Shehbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif took a jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan and remarked that those demanding snap elections don’t want metro train to become operational in Lahore.

Shehbaz, while addressing media after signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an international pharmaceutical company, shared that people who are against development and progress are engaging in politics of allegations.

He further said “these people who chant slogans are spreading lies,” adding “real Pakistan is the one that we [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz] are building.”

Speaking about the improvement in health sector, he said “we hope to serve as many as 1.2 million patients in the province.” On the MoU, he remarked that with the company’s help the provincial government hopes to tackle diseases such as diabetes, breast cancer, asthma and different heart-related diseases.

He also added that company would grant funds worth Rs6 billion, while the government would provide Rs30 million. 

Imran calls for snap elections 

PTI chief has time and again reiterated the demand for snap elections in the country. 

On Thursday, Imran said that early elections are called when a ruler’s mandate becomes questionable.

While speaking to the media in Chitral, where he had addressed a rally a day earlier, the PTI chief said that given the present circumstances in the country, there was no way out besides early elections.

He added that only “a fool” would term the step to be against democracy.

Imran quoted the instances from different countries, saying Theresa May of UK and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey called elections in their respective countries as the process strengthens democracy.

He said the sooner elections take place the better it would be.
