Naval chief Admiral Abbasi awarded Turkish Armed Forces Legion of Merit

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi has been awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Legion of Merit, a Pakistan Navy spokesperson said on Thursday. 

According to the Turkish military, the award is given to "persons displaying great efficiency in achieving the given duties or proving success in various duties as well as those making contributions to friendly relations between the Turkish Armed Forces and the concerning Armed Forces and close relations between the nations".

In June and July this year, Pakistan's army and air chiefs were awarded the same medal. 

Commander of Turkish Naval Forces Vice Admiral Adnan Ozbal awarded the medal to Admiral Abbasi in a ceremony held at the Turkish Naval Headquarters.

Abbasi, who was appointed the naval chief in October this year, is on an official visit to Turkey. 

On Wednesday, Admiral Abbasi called upon the commander of Turkish Naval Academy and commander naval training and education.

Professional and academic training and grooming of young officers was discussed in the meeting, among other matters of mutual interest. 

The naval chief was also given a briefing regarding training regime being followed at the Turkish Naval Academy, said a statement by the Pakistan Navy.
