Indian troops martyr eight youth in IoK's Kulgam district

SRINAGAR: Indian troops martyred eight youth in Indian occupied Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday, the Kashmir Media Service reported.

The youth were martyred during a during a cordon and search operation, jointly launched by Indian Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifle, Central Reserve Police Force and Special Operation Group in the district. 

The occupying forces also destroyed a house during the operation.

Two more youth were killed after an unexploded bomb went off while they were removing the debris of the destroyed house.

Further, three more Kashmiris who were injured in firing by Indian troops on protesters in Laroo area of Kulgam district succumbed to their wounds at the hospital.

Two Indian army soldiers were also injured in the attack in the area.

Authorities have suspended internet services and imposed curfew-like restrictions in the district. 

Earlier this year, in June, a United Nations report accused India of having used excessive force in occupied Kashmir to martyr and wound civilians since 2016, as it called for an international inquiry into the accusations of rights violations.

Activists estimate that up to 145 civilians were martyred by security forces and up to 20 civilians martyred by armed groups between July 2016 and April 2018.
