BRUSSELS: The Kashmiri community led by Kashmir Council organised a protest demonstration in front of the Indian embassy in Brussels to remember October 27 as Black Day. It was on this day in 1947 when Indian forces entered Kashmir on the pretext of a fake letter of accession.

Demonstrators chanted slogans condemning Indian atrocities in Kashmir including murders, enforced disappearances, rapes, torture, harassment, and extrajudicial arrests. The speakers condemned the use of pellet guns by Indian forces which have resulted in hundreds of Kashmiri youth being blinded.

Speaking at the occasion, Ali Raza Syed, Chairman Kashmir Council, said that Kashmiris from all over the world shall keep agitating against Indian occupation and abuses of human rights on a daily basis.

He said the freedom movement in Kashmir was the true reflection of the will of the people of Kashmir. He demanded of the international community to help Kashmiris gain their right to self-determination.

Earlier, on October 26, the Pakistan embassy organised an event in the Brussels Press Club to condemn the Indian occupation. A documentary was shown that reflected the miserable life in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. A Skype message from Mishaal Malik, wife of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, pleaded for international support for Kashmiris. MEP Jean Lambert and Julie Ward also spoke at the occasion through video link.
