Emerging Asia Cup: Pakistan defeat UAE by 9 wickets

 

KARACHI: Pakistan defeated United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 9 wickets in their second match of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup on Friday.

Batting first UAE scored 233-9 in their allotted 50 overs with Mohammad Usman pitching in with a gritty half-century.

For Pakistan Ashiq Ali finished with figures of 3/34 in his 10 overs.

Pakistan chased down the target in 39 overs losing only one wicket. Sahibzada Fahran scored his second consecutive century consisting of 10 fours. Hussain Talat also scored a century consisting of 2 sixers and 14 fours. 

A day earlier, the Pakistani emerging team started off the tournament on a victorious note, with a comprehensive 225-run win against Hong Kong in the opening match of the tournament at Karachi’s National Stadium.

Peshawar’s 19-year-old pacer Mohammad Ilyas claimed his first hat-trick and first fiver of his career to restrict the visitors to 141 runs, after centuries by opening duo of Sahibzada Farhan and Ali Imran helped Pakistan post a mammoth total of 366/3.

The score set by Pakistani batsmen gave enough confidence to the bowling line to keep opponents under pressure from the first ball.

Shahid Wasif was the only Hong Kong player who showed some resistance against Pakistani bowling and scored 59 before his team was bundled out for 141 runs in 34 overs.
