ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday lodged a strong protest with Iran over martyrdom of six Pakistani soldiers in a terrorist attack on a Frontier Corps (FC) convoy near Pakistan-Iran border.

Six Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom and 14 others were wounded late Friday when around 30 terrorists ambushed an FC convoy on patrolling duty along the Pakistan-Iran border. In the ensuing exchange of fire, four terrorists were also killed.

The Iranian ambassador to Pakistan was summoned to the Foreign Office, Islamabad to lodge a strong protest against the ghastly incident.

The Iranian government was urged to "carry out effective operation against the terrorist group responsible for the attack on its side of the border", a spokesman for the Foreign Office of Pakistan said in a statement.

The Foreign Office also underscored the need for an effective border coordination mechanism to prevent such incidents in future, the statement read.
