LDA official under investigation by NAB dies at Lahore hospital: sources

LAHORE: A deputy director of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), who was under investigation by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a corruption case, died at Lahore's Services Hospital, sources informed Geo News Monday.
Deputy Director Mohammad Saleem was apprehended by the NAB in connection with LDA Commercialisation Fees corruption case, the sources said. He was incarcerated in Camp Jail, Lahore since September 2017.
They said the suspect was suffering from a liver disease and was admitted to Lahore's Services Hospital on December 8, upon worsening of his condition.
Saleem, however, died at the hospital today, the sources added.
Last week, a former Sargodha University official under investigation by the NAB in a corruption case, died at the same hospital.
Mian Javed was the former CEO of the university's Lahore sub-campus and was under investigation in a corruption case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested Javed in October along with former Sargodha University vice-chancellor Dr Mohammad Akram Chaudhry and four other university officials.
According to the anti-corruption watchdog, the suspects were accused of receiving millions in bribes for allowing third parties to establish illegal sub-campuses.
Prison officials said that Javed suffered a "cardiac arrest" under custody and was shifted to Services Hospital where he died.
However, pictures of the deceased official's body had gone viral on social media with handcuffs still on, drawing severe criticism of authorities.
