KARACHI: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday announced that health cards will be issued for senior artists countrywide so that they can avail better medical treatment in hospitals.

Speaking to film and producers at the Sindh Governor House during his one-day visit to the metropolis, the information minister said health cards will be issued for all artists aged 45 and above.

Chaudhry said active efforts are being made to encourage production of films, increase the number of cinema houses and screens to entertain the people. “Cooperation from Pakistani embassies will be sought to help filmmakers sell their films abroad,” he added.

The information minister suggested that the mode of sale of the film will be taken into account ahead of completion and added that the film policy will be announced after a few amendments.

"We are trying to make a film board of the country. If anybody wants to establish a film city or state-of-the-art studio, the government will provide cooperation," Chaudhry said.

Chaudhry further said 16 famous festivals of Pakistan like Shandur Mela, Basant, Nauroz, Pakistan Super League and polo festival will be highlighted through Lok Virsa to attract foreign tourists and to promote tourism in the country. “We are also considering to ease the visa rules for 66 countries to promote tourism.”

He also called upon filmmakers to offer suggestions to promote film-making in the country.
