BRUSSELS: Kashmir Council EU (KC-EU) organised a candle light vigil here on Tuesday in order to express sympathy with oppressed people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK).

A number of people from all walks of life and as well as representatives of different NGOs attended the event held in front of Brussels’s central railways station.

The participants raised placards having anti-terrorist slogans, while standing in a row with their hands clasped forming a human chain. The demonstrators headed by senior office bearer of Kashmir Council EU Ch Khalid Mahmood Joshi expressed their solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiris, especially families of martyrs killed by Indian forces in last few decades in the occupied valley.

By condemning the atrocities and genocide of Kashmiris by Indian occupation forces, the participants paid great homage to the brave people of Kashmir.

The speakers of the demonstration said that the people of Kashmir are struggling peacefully for the right to self-determination and there should be a plebiscite under the United Nations in the IoK to make political fate of the disputed territory clear.

They pointed out that deployment of 700,000 Indian troops in the valley is a proof of an occupation as large scale human rights violations are being committed by these occupation forces.

Indian authorities are engaged to press the peaceful mass resistance by use of force and brutalities and unnamed mass graves is a proof of the massacre of the innocent Kashmiris.

Meanwhile in a statement on the occasion of solidarity day, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed said that the support will continue to the people of Kashmir till suitable resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Ali Raza Syed further said that the freedom struggle will not be stopped by Indian evil designs and its illicit rule. Kashmiri people will continue their struggle for freedom from the Indian occupation, he added.

India has forcefully held the state of Jammu and Kashmir but the people want their right to self-determination which was promised by the international community including the UN.

Ali Raza Syed also urged the UN and EU to play their role peaceful resolution of the issue.

The embassy of Pakistan in Belgium also organised a seminar at the European press club Brussels to demonstrate solidarity with people of Indian occupied Kashmir.

The seminar was attended by Members of European and Brussels Municipality parliament and Council. Moreover, political activist, students and scholars shed light on the ongoing struggle of people of Kashmir for freedom.

Socialist member of European Maria Arena stressed on human rights of people of Kashmir. She said in Europe right-wing parties always block resolutions condemning atrocities in Kashmir and now time has come to forward the campaign with full vigor to oppose brutal oppression in Kashmir.

Speakers at the seminar referred Indian occupation of Kashmir a fascist design in the garb of Democratic order. Participants expressed their views on Indian occupation, equating it with the Nazi occupation of Europe.
