ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday sought response from New Delhi on reports of the brutal killing of a Pakistani prisoner by Indian inmates in an Indian jail in retaliation of the Pulwama Incident.

"Pakistan is gravely concerned at media reports regarding the brutal killing of a Pakistani prisoner, Mr Shakirullah, imprisoned in Jaipur Central Jail,", the Foreign Office of Pakistan said in a statement.

"He was beaten to death by a group of Indian inmates in retaliation of the Pulwama incident."

The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi has officially raised the issue with Indian authorities, requesting them to urgently authenticate the report and respond.

The Foreign Office called on the Indian government "to fulfill its obligations and ensure provision of foolproof security to all Pakistani inmates in Indian jails, and Pakistani visitors to India."

The killing of the Pakistani inmate comes amid heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours that followed New Delhi's blaming of Islamabad for the Pulwama attack. Pakistan's leadership has strongly refuted the allegations.

Some 44 Indian paramilitary personnel were killed last week when an explosives-packed van rammed into a convoy transporting 2,500 security forces in Pulwama district of Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK), in the deadliest attack in the valley in 30 years.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan responded to Indian rhetoric with an offer to investigate the Pulwama attack and act if New Delhi shared "actionable intelligence with Pakistan."

Khan, however, made it clear that if the Indian side thought they would attack Pakistan, then Pakistan would not just think but retaliate.
