Karachi chartered accountant Areeb Ahmed martyred in Christchurch mosque attacks

On Saturday authorities in New Zealand confirmed that six Pakistanis had lost their lives in the Christchurch mosque attacks.

Among the six Pakistanis was 27-year-old Areeb Ahmed, a resident of Karachi who was the only son of his parents.

Areeb, a chartered account by profession, had travelled to New Zealand on behalf of his company in Pakistan.

Shortly after a tweet by the spokesman for the foreign office, Areeb’s cousin post a message on his Facebook page. 

Also among the martyred Pakistanis were Naeem Rashid and his son Talha Naeem. Naeem has been dubbed a hero as he tried to stop the shooting at the Al Noor Mosque by launching himself at the gunman.

A resident of Abbottabad, Naeem had moved to Christchurch to work as a teacher.

At least 49 people lost their lives when 28-year-old right-wing extremist Brenton Tarrant attacked two mosques in Christchurch. 41 people lost their lives at the Al Noor Mosque, while seven more died at a mosque in the suburb of Linwood.

The terrorist appeared in a local court earlier today on murder charges. He was remanded in custody with no bail requested and is scheduled to appear in the South Island city’s High Court on April 5 and will likely face further charges.
