“Why will PTI consider a leader whose own party does not want him back?,” says Special Asst to PM Firdous Ashiq Awan

ISLAMABAD: Newly-appointed Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan dismissed on Sunday the news of former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan being a likely replacement of Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar in future.

While speaking on Geo News show ‘Nayya Pakistan’, the minister denied the possibility of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s former stalwart’s return into formal politics, casting doubt about support of Nisar from any sphere.

“Why will Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf consider a leader whose own party does not want him back?,” she said.

On the question of future of media being in turmoil, Awan said that the impression of PTI creating hurdles for media is an incorrect one.

The PTI wants to see media as a strong partner, said the Special Assitant to PM on Information.

Earlier in the day sources reported that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is likely to take oath as a member of Punjab Assembly this week.

Nisar, who was elected MPA in the July 2018 general elections, has not yet taken oath of his office. According to sources, he could be a strong contender for the post of Punjab chief minister if Usman Buzdar is removed from office.

Nisar contested as an independent candidate in the general election from NA-59 and NA-63, but lost to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ghulam Sarwar Khan on both the seats. Although he won his provincial assembly seat, he has yet to take oath on it.
