BALTIMORE: One person was killed and six others were injured at yet another mass shooting near a Maryland church late Sunday night, police officials confirmed.

While addressing the media here, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison confirmed that at least one person was dead in the shooting that took place near Perkins Square Baptist Church. However, since the gunman was on the run, the police official appealed to the public for help in identifying him.

Harrison, according to CNN, said the gunman likely "targeted someone in the crowd".

Initial reports had indicated that half a dozen people were shot at the Perkins Square Baptist Church, with British daily The Sun reporting that "cops rushed to the scene […] at around 5:30pm local time".

According to a witness, who was not independently verified, "scanner reports [indicated] as many as seven victims near a Baltimore church on Edmundson Avenue".

A local TV reporter tweeted a short video of police presence at the site. The area has been cordoned off to the public. Some reports indicated that the suspect was a "white man and 5'8" wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans" and has "fled in a white vehicle".
