Rawalpindi rape case: Student retracts statement before court

22-year-old student claimed to nominate the suspects on the provocation of NGOs, focal persons.

RAWALPINDI: In a dramatic turn of events the student subjected to sexual assault by Rawalpindi police personnel has retracted her statement before a local court on Tuesday by giving clean chit to all four suspects.

The four suspects identified as Muhammad Naseer, Rashid Minhas, Muhammad Azeem and Amir had a case registered against them upon the complaint of the 22-year-old victim. The medical report had also confirmed sexual assault.

The girl maintained that her initial statement presented on May 24 should be considered null and void as she wants to record a new statement. The girl said that the suspects nominated in the case were not involved in the crime and she didn’t know their names before the filing of FIR.

She claimed to nominate the suspects on the provocation of NGOs and focal persons.

Reports have earlier revealed that the families of suspects have bene pressurizing the victim’s parents to drop their allegations and wrap the case through acts of contrition.
