BIRMINGHAM: Man of the match Babar Azam called his unbeaten century in the World Cup match against New Zealand as ‘the best innings of his career’.

Babar scored 101 not out in Pakistan’s chase of 238 runs to keep alive their chances of reaching the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

“The wicket was difficult and turned a lot in the second half,” said the batsman in the post-match ceremony as he received cheers from the crowd. “The plan was to go through to the end and give me 100 per cent.”

Babar said that when the team started the initial plan was to be cautious of fast bowler Ferguson but as the game begins the plan changed to not give wicket to spinner Santner.

“The plan became not to give wickets to him (Santner) and cover up later when the fast bowlers come on. The fans support us here in Birmingham, it's great.
