BRUSSELS: The Embassy of Pakistan in Belgium with the cooperation of European External Action Service (Foreign Mission of EU) organised a three-week exhibition on Sustainable tourism in Pakistan at its premises.

The exhibition revolved around nature, culture and livelihood of local communities. The exhibition highlights sustainable development, protection of environment and nature, and preservation of heritage.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the high representative of foreign affairs of EU Felicia Mogherini and Foreign minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by other dignitaries, ambassador of EU to Pakistan Jean-François Cautain and Pakistan's Ambassador to EU, Belgium and Luxembourg Naghmana Hashmi.

Foreign Minster Shah Mehmood Qureshi talking to GEO News said Pakistan has great sustainable tourism potential and this exhibition is a testimony to it.

He further said that Pakistan shows awareness towards climate change and environment issues, and suitability is a key factor to protect environment.

Pakistan is a blessed country when it comes to natural and picturesque views. Beaches in the south to plains and deserts in the west, and then there are mountains of 8000 metres and above in the scenic North.

Pakistan's beautiful landscape is a great attraction to western tourists. Karakoram highway is another opportunity to explore Pakistan and the region, especially for cyclists running for 1300km.

Preservation of Cultural heritage of Pakistan, helped by the UNESCO, to restore particularly Hunza Fort, Shahi Fort in Lahore and Badshahi Mosque, was primarily meant to preserve the Sufi Shrine and Sufi culture and philosophy.
