Alleged child rapist commits suicide in Lahore police station

LAHORE: An alleged child rapist committed suicide on Wednesday here in a jail in the city's Akbari Gate police station, authorities confirmed.

According to police, the alleged child rapist, identified as Zeeshan, was taken into custody a day earlier. A first information report (FIR) had been filed against him on behalf of the minor boy's father, Muhammad Qazzafi.

Police added that the alleged child rapist hanged himself to death in the bathroom while he was locked up in the jail.

Ashfaq Khan, the deputy inspector-general (DIG) of police for operations, reached Akbari Gate police station and ordered an investigation into the matter, while the senior superintendent of police (SSP) for operations, too, is conducting an inquiry.

Forensic samples were collected from the scene of the suicide and the body sent for post-mortem, police noted.
