ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Tuesday that Pakistan would not abandon the Kashmiri people.

“We want to convey to the innocent Kashmiris that we will not abandon you. Pakistan on every forum will stand with you [Kashmiris] for the protection of your just demands,” Awan said while speaking to reporters outside Parliament.

Firdous Ashiq Awan added that the entire nation was united on Kashmir and Parliament would adopt a unanimous resolution which would reflect the aspirations of over 220 million Pakistanis.

“We hope that today and tomorrow the joint session of Parliament would formulate a consensus agenda on Kashmir.”

Earlier, a resolution was presented during the joint session of Parliament against the scrapping of the special status of Indian occupied Kashmir.

On Monday, through a rushed presidential decree India abolished Article 370 following days of uncertainty in occupied Kashmir. Article 370 of the Indian constitution gave special to occupied Kashmir and limited the powers of the Indian parliament to impose laws in the state, apart from matters of defence, foreign affairs and communications.
