Pakistani teens off to victorious start in World U16 Snooker Championship

KARACHI: Young Pakistani cueists Hamza Ilyas and Mohammad Umar Khan were off to a victorious start on Tuesday, their opening day of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World U16 Snooker Championship in Russia.

16-year-old Umar Khan and 14-year-old Hamza Ilyas are currently in Tyumen, Russia, playing their first-ever international tournament, the IBSF World U16 Championship.

The teenage duo kicked-off their campaign by winning both their games on the opening day.

Umar Khan first downed India's Dhruv Patel 3-2. He was once trailing 1-2 but made a fine comeback to win back-to-back frames and complete the victory in a five-frame encounter, with a break of 83 in the fourth frame of game.

In his second match, Umar defeated Ireland's Leone Crowley without dropping a frame with scores of 73-43, 67-17 and 57-17.

Hamza kicked off his campaign with a 3-1 win over Russia's Artem Istomin, continuing his streak with a 3-2 win over Ireland's Jack Newman.
