RAWALPINDI: A minor boy who was reported missing almost a week ago was found dead near his residence in the city's Chaklala neighbourhood but his family claimed on Wednesday that the police never helped in searching for their son.

The deceased minor boy's family, who staged a protest against police's alleged negligence outside the local hospital, said they had found nine-year-old Naved's body in the fields a few metres away from their home.

The family explained that the late Naved had disappeared from outside his home on October 10 and that they had alert the Airport police station of the boy being missing the same day. Police, however, never helped them find their son, they claimed, adding that they found him dead six days later.

The superintendent of police (SP) for Potohar, Syed Ali, spoke to the media outside the hospital and promised severe departmental action against the police officers guilty of negligence.

Separately, the minor boy's family noted that they had no enmity with anyone.
