King as Frederik welcomes Denmark's newest ambassadors

King Frederik carried out a formal piece of diplomatic business at Christiansborg Palace on Wednesday.

He received the new ambassadors of North Macedonia, South Africa, the Netherlands, Finland, Luxembourg, and Saudi Arabia.

The six diplomats travelled by carriage from Amalienborg to Christiansborg before entering the palace to meet the Danish monarch in the Throne Room. 

During their audiences, they formally presented their credentials to the King.

The Danish Royal House explains that foreign ambassadors must present credentials from the head of state they represent to the King before taking up their work in the country.

Palace's reception rooms were closed to the public on Wednesday because of an official event.

Since becoming King in January 2024, Frederik has increasingly taken on the visible responsibilities of the Danish Crown. 

His official biography notes that he previously served at Denmark's UN mission in New York and later worked at the Danish Embassy in Paris.
