ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce and Trade Makhdum Amin Faheem has said that concerns of local industries were being addressed over Pak-India trade relations, Geo News reported on Thursday.
Briefing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce, the minister told he was not able to overcome cross border smuggling.
The committee summoned federal interior minister for its next meeting to resolve the issue of smuggling.
Amin Fahim said during the meeting “We have fought wars with India but that didn’t help resolve issues, now we have started seeking trade markers in neighboring countries”
Commerce secretary told the meeting that Pakistan’s talks with India regarding opening of trade routes were underway but over some routes Islamabad had some reservations.
He said work was also underway on providing foreign traders with insurance and security. The secretary further told that as many as 62 trade officers were present in different countries out of which three had been called back.
The standing committee recommended inclusion of one of its members in the Selection Board that appoints the trade officers.
