ISLAMABAD: For hours Pakistan's National Assembly loomed in darkness with members of the opposition benches protesting the state of the country's power vows. The blackout which affected many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab was due to a fire at one of the transformers of the Guddu Power Station on Thursday.
Major cities affected by the breakdown included the federal capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore and Faisalabad.
By evening the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) said electricity has been restored to all parts of the country which remained affected to due to the breakdown.
While the power failure at the assembly only lasted a few moments, the speaker of the National Assembly has ordered an inquiry.
