IB Chief claims Daesh network dismantled in Pakistan 

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Pakistan's Intelligence Bureau (IB), Aftab Sultan told the Senate of Pakistan's committee for interior thatDaesh's (Islamic State) network in Pakistan has been dismantled.

“We will have to keep our eyes open for another 8 to 10 years,” the IB chief told the Senate committee on Wednesday, adding, however, that some sectarian parties have been endorsing the ideology of Daesh.

He said the terrorist activities will take place but ‘we must not panic’ and continue to move forward.

Aftab Sultan said Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) supports Daesh in Pakistan.

He said operation Zarb-e-Azb is being carried out in various cities and villages with the help of IB and police.

He said two generations were brainwashed after the former Pakistani president Ziaul Haq’s regime. “It is high time we reversed this process,” he added.

The IB chief said two accused have been arrested for involvement in the terrorist attack on Karachi’s well-known police officer Chaudhry Aslam while two are still at large.

He said the murderers of Shafiq Tanoli have been apprehended while people linked with TTP’s Umer Khalifa group which was behind Hayatabad and Mina Bazar attacks have been rounded up.

He further informed that two accused involved in the murder of Senator Bashir Bilour were also arrested while two others escaped to tribal areas.

Suspects have also been arrested for involvement in the attacks on Justice Maqbool Baqar and Senator Khalid Soomro.
