KARACHI: Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan inaugurated a four-day Polio immunization drive in Karachi on Monday which aims to administer anti-polio drops to over 2.1 million children in the city.

Inaugurating the drive, the Sindh Governor administered immunization drops to children at the Anjuman-e-Hilal-e-Ahner and appealed to the parents to cooperate with the vaccination teams. The governor also appealed to the Islamic clerics to raise awareness regarding the drive.

The current drive aims to immunize over 2.1 million children aged under five. To meet the target over 5000 volunteers are taking part in the campaign with over 6000 security personnel deployed to provide security for the teams.

Earlier in February, the first incidence of Polio n Karachi was confirmedin a 34-month old infant. According to the Director Health Services Dr. Zafar Ijaz the child had been administered the anti-polio vaccine nine times.
