ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Friday rejected a controversial bill aimed at turning the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIA) into a public limited company.

The Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Bill 2015 was moved in the house by Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid on behalf of Minister for State and Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed.

Deputy Chairman Abdul Ghafoor Haideri put the motion to the house for approval but it was rejected with majority of votes.

The bill had been passed last month by majority vote in the National Assembly, amid uproar and a protest walkout from opposition lawmakers.
