The batting superpower of Cricket, India was humiliated at home soil on Tuesday in their first match of World T20 against New Zealand.

Let’s take a statistical review of India’s embarrassing defeat in World T20 game by New Zealand:

  1. Chasing a target of 127, Indians were bowled out of 79 runs. This was India’s 2ndlowest total in T20Is and lowest ever at their home soil.
  2. 79 all out is also lowest innings T20I total by any team from full members at home soil, previous record was by New Zealand, the Kiwis were bowled out for 80 at Christchurch against Pakistan in 2010.
  3. The Indian score was also 6thlowest by any Test playing country in T20Is, while 21stlowest among all the teams to play international T20 games.
  4. This was also the first time that Indians failed to chase a target of less than 130 runs in a T20 game making 126 the lowest total to be defended against India’s batting line.
  5. New Zealand’s score 126 is the second lowest total to be defended in a World T20 game. 119 (by Sri Lanka vs New Zealand, 2014) remains the lowest WorldT20 score to be defended.
  6. This was New Zealand’s 5thwin against India in the shortest format of the game, India has lost all the T20Is vs Kiwis.
  7. After England, India is the only team who failed to win the opening game of a World T20 event while hosting it. England hosting 2009 World T20 event, lost to Sri Lanka in its opening match.
  8. India has now lost 9 out of 16 T20I games at home soil. India’s victory average at home 43.75 is better than Sri Lanka (42.3) and Bangladesh (39.28). Of all 18 T20I teams, India’s home record is at 12thin chronology.
