KARACHI: Unknown gunmen on Tuesday shot dead a police officer in Liaquatabad area of the city. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West police told media Zahid Hussain was an officer of the Sindh police’s Special Security Unit.

He said the deceased was part of a team deployed for security duty at the residence of President Mamnoon Hussain.

The body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested six suspects, including an aide of Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch, during raids in different parts of the city as Director-General Sindh Rangers and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah renewed their resolve to continue the ongoing Karachi operation till the elimination of terrorism.
