Twenty20 skipper says he is sorry for not living up to the expectations of the people and asks for forgiveness from the nation

KARACHI: Hours after Pakistan’s head-coach Waqar Younis apologised to the nation for the cricket team’s dismal performance in Asia Cup followed by Word T20, captain Shahid Afridi also extended a brief apology to the nation in a video posted on social media.

The Twenty20 skipper said he was sorry for not living up to the expectations of the people and asked for forgiveness from the nation.

Afridi said he was only answerable to the masses and not concerned over his criticism following a poor show at the T20 World Cup in India.

Pakistan won only one of the four group matches in the World T20, after a debacle in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh last month where they failed to qualify for the final.

Following the team’s early exit in the Asia Cup, PCB chairman Shahryar Khan hadhinted at sweeping changes, and the board formed a special committee to monitor Pakistan team’s performance.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the PCB chairman later this week.
