Karakoram Highway remained blocked for the seventh consecutive day due to heavy rainfall and landsliding.

KOHISTAN: Karakoram Highway on Friday remained blocked for the seventh consecutive day due to heavy rainfall and landsliding in Kohistan.

Raja Afzal, deputy commissioner of the Kohistan district, said rescue workers have reached the site and that relief efforts were in progress.

Due to blockade of roads, many tourists, who have run out of money for hotels, were stranded in the area, the deputy commissioner added.

“Tourists are demanding to be evacuated from the district through helicopters,” Afzal said.

Kohistan, an administrative district within the Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is stretched over high mountains.

Earlier this week, a massive landslide struck at least seven houses, as a result of which, at least 30 people were buried alive.
