ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accepted resignation of his Special Assistant on Aviation, Captain (retd) Shujaat Azeem, Geo News reported on Friday.
The prime minister lauded Shujaat Azeem’s services for the development of aviation sector. Aviation sector progressed under him, he added.
Azeem had been working on the ‘honorary’ post for the last two years without pay. Heresigned from his post in December 2015, paving the way for Supreme Court to issue an independent verdict on his appointment being challenged by PIA pilots’ union.
An apex court bench had barred him from carrying on with his duties in response to the petition filed by pilots’ union against Azeem's appointment last year.
Shujaat Azeem had to leave the same office after the Supreme Court questioned his dual nationality and court martial history in 2013 also.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Islamabad earlier in the day to review performance of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Prime Minister Sharif presided the meeting and was briefed about the growth in shares volume of PIA at domestic as well in international market.
The meeting was informed that in domestic market, PIA shares have increase from 47 per cent to 58 per cent while in international market to shares volume has increased from 23 per cent to 27 per cent as compared to last year.
The premier was briefed that average daily departures increased from 94 flights in March last year to 121 flights in March this year.The participants of the meeting briefed that New Lean Organization Structure has been approved by the PIA Board of Directors.
Central Reservation Control has been shifted from Karachi to Islamabad with fully automated systems to curb inventory abuse.The Prime Minister was also briefed on the affairs of the Premier Airlines particularly proposed steps related to human resource activity.
PM Nawaz directed to ensure best cabin crew and catering services for the Premier Airways in order to achieve high service standards.
