ISLAMABAD: A day ahead of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s much-awaited appearance in the Parliament, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday said that the former’s response in connection with allegations leveled on his family in Panama Papers will settle the dust on the issue.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Urdu, Rashid confirmed that the prime minister will appear in the specially called session of the Parliament on Panama Leaks tomorrow. He will apprise the parliamentarians about facts behind his children’s offshore companies and businesses in detail, he added.
The premier will also explain his position in the wake of allegations hurled at him, the minister said, adding that twisted facts and figures, which he claimed were presented by the political opponents, would also be clarified after PM Nawaz’s speech on Monday.
“Prime Minister’s speech will prove all allegations on him as false and baseless,” said the information minister.
The federal minister for Information and Broadcasting has been severely criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for running an anti-Nawaz Sharif campaign in the wake of Panama Papers leak.
On Saturday, he said the PTI chief has lost the ‘moral authority’ to do politics following his admission of owing an offshore company. The senator called Imran Khan the ‘pioneer’ of offshore companies. Six offshore companies belong to PTI members, he added.
The phrase was earlier used by Maryam Nawaz on Twitter as well. “The pioneer of offshore companies…The trailblazer award goes to Mr Khan,” she had written.
PTI Chairman Khan earlier on Friday confirmed that he, too, owned an offshore company back in 1983 to avoid paying taxes in the United Kingdom.
