LAHORE: The counter-terrorism department (CTD) of Punjab Police claimed to have killed eight hardcore terrorists including some affiliates of Al Qaeda in a search operation carried out in Multan’s Nawabpur village on Wednesday night.
CTD officials, on condition of anonymity, told Geo News that three of the dead have been identified as Tayyab alias Abdul Mateen, Muneeb Razzaq alias Abdul Rehman and Zeeshan alias Abu Dajjana.
They said Muneeb Razzaq was involved in the murder of an employee of one of the sensitive institutions of the country.
Tayyab, on the other hand, was an active member of Al Qaeda, the CTD sources said, adding that he was also the alleged mastermind of the Preddy Street blast in Rawalpindi and used to oversee Al Qaeda’s finance and logistics matters.
Two alleged terrorists, Yasir Punjabi and Muneeb Javed escaped during the operation, said the CTD sources. A suicide jacket, 47 rifles, two pistols and three hand grenades were also recovered from their possession, they added.
The militants were allegedly planning to carry out a suicide attack on a prominent university in the area, said the CTD sources.
