ISLAMABAD: CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Friday, talked about his newly appointed role and said that serving the public is his foremost priority.
Speaking to the media after meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier today, CM Sindh said that he will try to put right any wrongs done so far.
“I have been chosen by the people of Sindh,” said Murad Ali Shah, who replaced octogenarian Qaim Ali Shah a week ago.
The CM said that it was former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto who convinced him to venture into politics, adding that she would have been happy to see him as CM had she been alive.
He also said that encouragement from the media has made him more confident.
“I won’t speak, my work will speak for me,” CM said, adding that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured him of his utmost cooperation when he met him today.
CM Murad stressed that he will work to eradicate the evil of corruption.
Talking about provincial rights, he said there will be no compromise on Sindh rights.
“There will be no compromise on the Constitution,” he said. “We will never and have never demanded anything unconstitutional. If every institution works in accordance with the Constitution, there will be no problems,” he added.
CM Murad said that the party leadership has placed their trust in him and he would continue to consult them. He also said that the policies of the Pakistan People’s Party are those of the people.
Murad meets PM Nawaz
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, CM Sindh discussed important governance matters.
Sources said that consultation over electricity arrears, NFC award, and division of resources also took place during the meeting.
The meeting also revolved around the ongoing development projects being carried out with the assistance of the federal government.
This was the first meeting between Murad Ali Shah and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, since the incumbent CM took oath last week.
The federal government and Sindh government have been at odds over the issue of extending the stay of Rangers in Karachi with special powers. The summary had been signed by Murad Ali Shah on Monday, but Rangers were granted policing powers only in Karachi and not all over Sindh.
Discussing the issue, CM Sindh said that Rangers’ 90-days policing powers in Karachi are in accordance with the ATA amendment.
CM also said he had informed the Prime Minister of issues being faced by Sindh in the meeting.
