ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) along with Islamabad Police on Saturday conducted a raid at a guest house and detained a US national who had been expelled from Pakistan in 2011 on suspicion of spying.
Director FIA Mazharul Haq Kakakhel led the raid after it was learned that the US citizen Matthew Barrett had returned to Pakistan on Friday.
Two officials at the Islamabad Airport were also suspended for allowing Barrett to enter the country when his name was on the black-list.
Court sends US national on remand
Later in the day, a local court handed over the blacklisted US national to the FIA on a three-day physical remand.
The court directed the investigation agency to produce Mathew Barret before the court again on August 9.
According to FIA sources, Matthew is married to a Pakistani national.
