A man who was being tried for running over his Arab neighbour with his car in Oklahoma city in the United States— allegedly gunned down his neighbour’s son in a murder which has shocked the entire community.
The family of 37-year-old shooting victim Khaled Jabara said that accused Stanley Majors hates Muslims, and had previously called the family racist names like ‘dirty Arabs’.
The Jabaras are Lebanese Christians but claim that Stanley’s actions were based on his hate for Muslims.
Last September Stanley was arrested for running over Khaled’s mother Haifa Jabara with his car. Haifa survived after a passerby took her to a hospital.
"He killed our brother while awaiting trial for running over our mother," the Jabara's said, NBC News reported. "Only 30 minutes prior to my brother's shooting, Khalid called police stating this man had a gun and that he was scared for what might happen."
Police confirmed they received a phone call but claimed they were "unable to locate any criminal activity", NBC News reported.
The Jabara family claims that Khalid’s death could have been prevented if the police had taken timely action and placed Stanley behind the bars.
"Our brother's death could have been prevented," they said in the statement. "This man was a known danger. He intentionally tried to kill our mother less than one year ago when he ran her over with his car. Based on his racist comment towards us, he should have been charged with a hate crime then."
