Pakistan ODI captain Azhar Ali said the ongoing series against England is difficult, as he tried to look for a silver lining following the green shirts’ defeat at Leeds on Thursday which brought Pakistan on the brink of a clean sweep.
England defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the fourth ODI at Leeds, going up 4-0 in the five-match series. Earlier this week the hosts thrashed Pakistan to claim a record-breaking 169-run win at Trent Bridge.
Azhar Ali, however, refused to lose faith in the side as he praised the bowlers after Leeds loss.
“Bowlers bowled well but unfortunately were unable to break the partnership,” he said, adding that more needed to be done.
The skipper admitted that the batsmen failed to put up a big score for the English side to chase, adding that he should have scored more runs.
"I need to score a big innings for my team," said Azhar, who made 80 runs off 104 balls in the fourth ODI.
The captain praised Mohammad Irfan for giving the team an early breakthrough with wickets of openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales but said it was frustrating that the pacer twisted his shank and had to leave the field.
Pakistan play England in the fifth and final ODI at Cardiff on Sunday, September 4.
