LONDON: Some senior members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London announced on Sunday Farooq Sattar’s party membership has been cancelled.
MQM’s Mustafa Azizabadi, Qasim Ali Raza, Wasay Jalil and Muhammad Ashfaq issued a statement from London saying Farooq Sattar no longer belonged to the party because he committed ‘treason’ repeatedly.
The senior members said Farooq Sattar has no right to impose administrative decisions and he is no more MQM’s elected parliamentary leader.
They further said Nadeem Nusrat is the only elected convener of MQM.
MQM Pakistan on Saturday named party leader Farooq Sattar as convener of its Rabita Committee, amid major reshuffle in party rank and file.
MQM Pakistan turned down the offer of party's London chapter leader Nadeem Nusrat to rejoin the party founder by tendering an apology. The committee named Amir Khan as senior deputy convener, while Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was designated as deputy convener.
Talking to Geo News, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said he recognises MQM Pakistan as the only registered party and Farooq Sattar as the only leader of the party.
The Speaker said if any party wants to de-seat Farooq Sattar then it would have to approach the Election Commission or send a reference.
“We don’t recognise any other MQM,” he said.
