Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam sparked controversy in India by raising doubts on India’s ‘surgical strike’ claim

Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam, who sparked controversy in India by raising doubts on India’s ‘surgical strike’ claim, said he has received a “threat call” from alleged gangster Ravi Pujari.

Nirupam said Pujari called on his residence landline earlier this week from a foreign number and demanded that he apologise publicly for saying earlier that the government’s claim of surgical strike across the Line of Control was ‘fake’, Indian media reported.

The underworld threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to issue a public apology over his remarks, he said, adding that he has filed a police complaint against the matter.

Nirupam's wife has written a letter to Narendra Modi, stating that her family feels unsafe in India ever since the Congress president questioned the veracity of the surgical strikes by the Indian army.

Nirupam drew outrage from various circles over his remarks, leading some to label him a ‘traitor’.
