Naresh from India and Priya from Pakistan are just a month away from getting married. The cross-border lovers and their families have already saved the date and wedding preparations are in full force. There is just one problem: the Modi government stands in their way.

Priya and her family are waiting for the visa to travel to India for the wedding, but have not been able to secure it yet even after waiting for three months. The marriage has been fixed on November 7, but the families across the border are worried they may fall victim to the increasing tension between India and Pakistan following the Uri attack and India’s ‘surgical strikes’ across the Line of Control.

27-year-old Jodhpur resident Naresh Tewani, in a desperate attempt to keep the plans from falling apart, approached external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter on Friday, requesting that his Karachi-based fiancée be issued the Indian visa.

Swaraj, however, assured him on Twitter that Priya would get the visa to travel to India for their wedding.

Naresh was quoted by Indian media as saying that the minister’s tweet has revived their hopes and “there should not be any problem for the marriage now.”
