13-year-old killed, 18 injured in Karachi Imambargah blast

According to an eyewitness, suspects riding on motorcycles hurled hand grenades outside the Dar-e-Abbas Imambargah

KARACHI: A 13-year-old identified as Faraz was killed while 18 including women and children were injured in a hand grenade blast outside the Dar-e-Abbas Imambargah located in the Liaqatabad area of the city, police said on Monday.

The Bomb Disposal Squad prepared an initialreport on the blast.

According to sources, thereport said that acracker bomb was used in theimambargah attack.

The initial report stated that600-700 grams of ball bearings and explosives were used in the explosion, sources said.

Additional IG Police, Mushtaq Maher said security was being provided to all Majalis during the month of Muharram. "We are evaluating why there was a security lapse during this Majlis," Maher added.

Jameela Manzoor, Ghosia Haider, Shamim Subhan, and Faizan Ayub are among the injured, police said.

Earlier, an eyewitness said suspects riding motorcycles had hurled hand grenades at the Imambargah.
