Pakistan Cricket team hasn’t lost any test series in New Zealand since 1985

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket team will start its campaign in New Zealand early Thursday morning with the first of two-match Test series in Christchurch carrying a clear statistical edge over the Blackcaps.

Pakistan Cricket team hasn’t lost any test series in New Zealand since 1985 and enjoys a streak of 12 undefeated series (including one-off series) in the land of Kiwis, of which they have won seven and drew five.

Of 29 Tests played in New Zealand, against New Zealand, Pakistan has won 10, and lost only five of them, while 14 ended as draw. This makes Pakistan’s win/loss ratio in away series against New Zealand 2.000, the country’s best against any of top eight teams in away games.

Both the teams have overall faced-off each-others in 53 Test matches, 24 of them were won by Pakistan while 8 resulted in New Zealand’s favor. 21 of 53 Tests between the two countries ended as draw, which indicates Pakistan’s good record against New Zealand.

Of total 21 Test series between Pakistan and New Zealand (including one-off match) 13 were won by Pakistan. While New Zealand won only twice, first time in 1969/70 and then in 1984/85 season.

Of all the bowlers from two countries, Pakistan’s Waqar Younis leads the performer charts in overall Test matches between two countries with 70 wickets in 13 Tests, followed by Wasim Akram with 60 wickets in mere 9 test matches.

Among the batsmen from two countries, Javed Miandad with 1919 runs from 18 games is the top performer, he is followed by Asif Iqbal (1113 runs in 28 innings) and Inzamam ul Haq (1059 runs in 19 innings).

The Christchurch Test, first of two-match series, will also be Misbah ul Haq’s 50th Test match as captain, he’ll be first Pakistani to reach the milestone of captaining the national team in 50 Tests. He already is the most successful Test captain for Pakistan with 24 wins – 10 more than Imran Khan – in 49 Test matches.

During the two match series, Pakistan’s captain Misbah ul Haq will have his eyes on reaching another milestone, which is of 5,000 runs in Test career. He needs 169 runs more to become the 7th Pakistani player to complete five thousand runs in Test Cricket.

Younis Khan will also have an opportunity to become only the second Pakistan player to bat in 200 Test innings. He needs to bat in three more innings in the upcoming series to join Inzamam ul Haq on the top of the list of Pakistani players with 200 innings in Test Cricket.

With at least four opportunities to bat during the upcoming series, Younis Khan is also in line to become first Pakistani with 10,000 runs. He currently has 9663 runs and need to score 337 runs more to join the 10,000 test runs’ club.
