KARACHI: Following an internal inquiry the Sindh Police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) dismissed two officers part of the CTD including Inspector Malik Muhammad Asif Usman part of the Operations-I team.

According to documents available with Geo News, “it came to the notice through some sources that he [Muhammad Asif] arrested a civilian person namely Badar bin Shuja” after which the officer was issued a show cause notice.

However Inspector Muhammad Asif Usman “deliberately tried to hide the actual facts before the senior officers due to ulterior motives” after which a raid was carried out and the illegally detained civilian was recovered.

Following an interim on the spot inquiry it was revealed that there was a monetary dispute between Badar bin Shuja and others and the CTD officer abused his authority as SHO PS CTD as he had no mandate or authority to intervene in the civil matter.

An inquiry was also held by DSP CTD Operations-I which found Inspector Muhammad Asif Usman guilty, he was however still summoned to the Orderly Room (OR) on the 3rd of November where both his written and oral explanations were found unsatisfactory.

On the 16th of November the officer was summoned again to the OR “but he failed to appear” before the DIG Counter Terrorism Department.

In light of the inquiry officer’s report and the nature of illegal action as SHO/PS CTD Inspector Malik Muhammad Asif Usman was awarded a “major punishment of dismissal from service with immediate effect.”
