PM to contact political leaders on horse-trading issue

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to contact political leaders personally over the issue of horse-trading in the upcoming Senate elections.

“Contact with political parties should be positive and Senate elections should be fair at all costs,” Prime Minister Sharif said.

The prime minister has also directed committees formed to address the issue of horse-trading to expedite their proceedings.

Prime Minister Sharif added all steps would be taken for the respect of institutions and to strengthen democracy in the country.

On Monday, Prime Minister Sharif chaired a cabinet meeting and directed all concerned authorities curb horse-trading in the Senate elections.

During the meeting, PM Nawaz expressed his anger at the issue of horse-trading and said that any use of means including taking support of constitutional amendments should be applied.

The prime minister also directed for a legal committee to be formed to curb horse-trading. The committee is to present constitutional and legislative proposals to the PM within the next few days.

On February 16, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said that all political parties of the country were united against horse-trading.
