KARACHI: Terrorism cannot be ruled out in the hotel fire which killed 12 and inured 110, police said on Tuesday.

Investigation into the incident is underway and police will release a final report in the light of evidence collected. The report will also be shared with the media.

Police said that there was no fire safety plan in place at the hotel. Neither did the fire alarms work. There were no safe fire exits, police added.

Therefore, negligence cannot be ruled out during investigation, police said.

The fire broke out at 3:00 AM in the kitchen of a private hotel at Shahrah-e-Faisal on Monday. It traveled through the air conditioning ducts, engulfing a major part of the hotel in flames.

Firefighters were able to douse the fire after four hours with the help of three fire tenders.

The ceilings of the lobby, mezzanine and ground floors were made of thermapool sheet, which caught fire quite quickly and spread it, a hotel official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

PIA crew, cricketers and foreigners were among the injured.
