WhatsApp has brought back its text-based Status option on Android, after it rolled out its self-destructing image-based counterpart earlier in February.

Initially, when WhatsApp had decided to roll out the feature similar to Snapchat it had received a lot of backlash from people, who seem to prefer static text over the new feature that was a clone of the Snapchat’s stories feature.

In a statement issued to TechCrunch, the company clarified: “We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day.”

Currently, the update is only available on Android Beta version of WhatsApp in the About section of profiles. But, the feature will be rolled out other Android users in the next week and soon in IOS.
