Here's how to check which apps will be shelved

Thousands of apps are likely to be killed when the next version of the iOS is rolled out.

New warnings issued with the iOS beta in a dedicated settings menu say that outdated apps “"will not work with future versions of iOS."

A new settings menu called “app compatibility” in the latest public beta for iOS 10.3 specifically lists any outdated apps installed on your device.

An additional warning in the new “app compatibility” menu shows if a newer version of the app is available. It requests users to “contact the app developer for more information," if “no update is available.”

Apple plans to force developers to update legacy apps that were created before the 64-bit processors introduced with the iPhone 5S in 2013. The warnings seem to be part of the company’s plan to get legacy apps updated.

In the past, the company issued warnings that outdated apps may “slow down” users’ phones, in an attempt to shame lazy developers.

This time around, Apple’s push to nudge these developers seems to be on an altogether different level of aggression.

Despite placing the requirement of new apps and updates to support 64-bit processors since 2015, at least 187,000 apps still don’t support the modern chipset, according to app analytics firm Sensor Tower.

Apple already removed 47,000 apps that failed to meet the set criteria last fall.

While the company has not yet commented on the matter, it seems highly likely that iOS 11 will do away with a significant number of apps.
