Tehmina Janjua assumes charge as Pakistan’s first woman foreign secretary

Janjua replaces Aizaz Chaudhry who has been posted as Pakistan's Ambassador to the US

ISLAMABAD: In historic first, Tehmina Janjua assumed charge as Pakistan’s first woman foreign secretary on Monday.

In her last assignment, Janjua was serving as Pakistan’s Representative to the United Nations Geneva. She replaces Aizaz Chaudhry who has been posted as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States. Tehmina Janjua has also served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy in the past.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved Janjua’s appointment to the top post in the Foreign Office in February. BesidesTehmina Janjua, Pakistan's High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit, former Chief of Protocol and Ambassador to France Ghalib Iqbal, country’s ambassador toDenmark Masroor Junejo and Pakistan’s High Commissioner for United Kingdom Syed Ibne Hasan were the other contenders for the post,sources had previously informed Geo News.
